Film Festival Finalist!

Hello blogging world!

Last night the Ako Hiko Trust hosted the annual Ako Hiko Film Festival at Event Cinemas at St Lukes. It was a fantastic event with so much talent shared on the big screen.

We are delighted to announce that the film selected to represent Tahuri Class was the film Drawing Drama! It was selected because it had lots of great elements including a clear plot and message, great acting, interesting camera shots and clear, audible sound.

Drawing Drama (as it’s name suggests) is all about drama at a drawing competition!

Congratulations to Agnes, Sativa, Zaina, Karolina, Sammy, Betul and Diya! These girls worked collaboratively to construct a storyboard and script. They then cooperated superbly to turn their idea into a movie. Can you spot the different camera angles that these girls tried to use?

Malo e lelei!

Malo e lelei! Happy Tongan Language Week!

In Tahuri Class we’ve been learning some new words from our Tongan language experts. Sione, Mo’unga, Agnes and Utu took up the challenge and taught us some Tongan.

Mo’unga taught us how to count to 10. (Some of us were so good we got an extension lesson all the way up to 20!)

Agnes taught us the colours in Tongan.

Sione taught us some useful phrases.

and Utu taught us the days of the week.

Special thanks to these faiako who shared their expertise and knowledge with us!

Coding Challenge

Kia ora bloggers!

Today we had the opportunity to take on the Ako Hiko Coding Challenge!

I’ve had a little bit of experience with coding before so I decided to challenge myself by doing something new and learning how to code using scratch.

I chose the superheroes tutorial and created a parrot flying through the sky. I enjoyed this challenge because it was really easy to follow the instructions. Something I found challenging was having so many different parts in the code. I still need to keep working on my game. The next thing I need to do is add some points when the parrot collects the star and I’d also like to add some more trees or obstacles so that it looks like the parrot is flying past things.

Here is what I’ve created so far:
